Man belongs to the earth.
The earth does not belong to man.
Living with earth
Manifesto for the right to build with earth
Building with earth means:
Rethinking, both locally and globally, the use of our planet's resources, combining earth, water, and sun in a genuine technical, cultural, social, economic, and environmental challenge; defending the right to use a natural and ecological building material that is abundant, readily available, and accessible to as many people as possible, enabling the less fortunate to build their own homes "with what they have beneath their feet"; promoting local resources, both human and natural, improving living conditions, valuing cultural diversity, and maintaining social support systems for the construction and maintenance of the built environment; using a "natural concrete" that offers a genuine ecological and economic alternative to materials and production processes harmful to the environment; revaluing, adapting, and transforming over 11,000 years of knowledge and expertise, and combining an age-old material with innovative architecture; recognizing the cultural value of vernacular buildings, opposing their destruction, and promoting their restoration with respect for the material and architectural expression; pursuing the development of the art of building and creating complex forms in an ensemble that combines architecture, aesthetics, and decoration; developing innovation to optimize the material, simplify construction, and produce new architecture.
