Since 2018, on the initiative of Città della Terra Cruda, a project to promote the local heritage—one that weaves together memory and innovation—has been taking shape in Pabillonis: Pingiadas – Exhibition of Functional Ceramics, an exhibition dedicated to the revival of the tradition of terracotta cookware, reinterpreted with a contemporary perspective.

Through research, training, design, and production, Pingiadas explores the role of functional ceramics in contemporary society, highlighting their value as cultural heritage, an everyday practice, and a field of experimentation capable of generating innovation.

Each edition of the festival features a rich program of events: artist residencies, exhibitions, conferences, experiential activities, and opportunities for sharing that foster dialogue among artisans, designers, artists, researchers, and communities.

In Pabillonis, ceramics are not merely a legacy of the past but a living heritage that continues to evolve. Over the centuries, the local clays have fostered the development of an extraordinary manufacturing tradition that has made the town known as“Sa bidda de is pingiadas,” the town of pots and pans. This is a distinctive feature of the community that the exhibition aims to highlight and carry forward into the future.

Here, clay is not merely a material to be shaped, but becomes a vehicle for culture—a collective narrative woven from hands, ideas, and the local landscape: a place where tradition and modernity come together to envision new forms and new meanings for functional ceramics.
