Nurachi is a center of very ancient origin in the Campidano of Oristano. Its territory extends to the Cabras pond, with areas of naturalistic interest such as Mare ‘e pauli, included in the Ramsar convention, and the Pischeredda park, with a Spanish tower: here you will admire rare species including flamingos and moorhens. These are places rich in marsh vegetation, including su fenu, raw material for is fassonis, small boats of ancient origins used by fishermen in the pond. Fishing is one of the resources, although agricultural activities are prevalent: cultivation of cereals, olive groves and vineyards, from which vernaccia, a fine white wine, comes.
The historic center is characterized by Campidanese houses, built with unfired earth bricks (ladiri). You can learn about the traditions of Nurachi in the ethnographic museum set up in an old manor house, in four multimedia rooms represents natural wetland environment, traditional architecture, music (especially launeddas, an archaic pipe instrument) and food. Standing out in the center of the village is the 17th-century parish church of St. John the Baptist, built on a pre-existing 6th-century Romanesque church. The ancient building has a single apsidal nave and two rooms on either side of the chancel; one was used as a baptistery: a circular basin covered with white plaster was found there. Surrounding the church was a necropolis datable to the 6th-7th centuries.
