Manoppello is a town rich in traditions and places to visit. The ancient historic center has architectural features and beauty with a clear medieval imprint. In the hills surrounding the town are earthen buildings built using the masonry technique. Among the historic monuments we find several churches. The Church of St. Mary Arabona, built in 1208 by Cistercian monks, is a Gothic-style Burgundian architecture. The former monastery, converted into civilian housing, preserves the striking chapter house with central pillar branching ribs on the corners and walls, gathered by hanging capitals. Completing the monumental work is the large verdant garden. The monastery and church, purchased by Baron Zambra, were later donated to the Salesians. The 14th-century Church of St. Nicholas of Bari, transformed in the Baroque period. The church of St. Clare and convent of the Franciscan Sisters; the church of St. Nicholas, with three naves, entirely baroque; even the crypt has seventeenth-century ornaments and reliefs. There are many civic buildings with ancient sculptural details in balconies, windows, and portals; St. Pancras Church: typical rustic facade; entrance with steps; single nave with four chapels; late Baroque ornaments and stuccoes. the Shrine of the Holy Face located on a hill with beautiful panoramic views; built between 1617 and 1638. The interior of the church, with three naves, rich polychrome marble, stained glass windows. Above the high altar is the artistic marble tabernacle with the precious silver, gold and gemstone shrine: it contains the miraculous image of the Holy Face of Christ on light transparent silk; it is not painting, no signs of brush strokes or thickness of color can be seen. Since 1638 the Holy Image has not been altered by contact with light, nor has any change occurred. What to eat: old chicken broth with egg noodles, lasagna with chickpeas and fried onions, tagliatelle with walnuts, lamb tripe, cod with peppers.
