Among the pink and gray granite peaks of the Linas, furrowed by streams and waterfalls, verdant forests of holm oaks, cork oaks, yews and Mediterranean scrub, habitats of rare species, such as Sardinian deer and golden eagles. The mountainous landscape is associated with rich deposits, exploited from ancient times until the 1960s. Fascinating disused mining architecture remains, including in particular the molybdenite mine of Perd’e Pibera.<br\/>Gonnosfanadiga is an important agricultural center where olive oil, table olives, a typical bread, meats and sausages, honey and sweets, vegetables and fruits are produced. Also famous are artifacts made of wood, cork, ceramics, textiles, and especially the skill of Gonnos’ master knife makers. The historic center is characterized by stone and earthen buildings; numerous wells can be seen along the streets. Prominent among the buildings of worship is the parish church of St. Barbara, built in the Judicial period on the site of the older church of St. Anthony Abbot. Of great historical importance is the church of santa Severa, whose layout corresponds with the arrival of Greek evangelizing priests on the island (6th century) or perhaps even to the early Christian period (4th-5th century). It stands on a hill a few hundred meters from the town center on the area of a Roman necropolis. It has a Latin cross plan with barrel-vaulted rooms. Before the Byzantine ones, there is no lack of Roman evidence: coins, weapons, remains of fortifications and encampments, tombs and four cemeteries. While the earliest human traces in the area date back about 7,000 years: a dozen settlements from the ancient Neolithic period. In the locality of Pal’e Pardu there remain ruins of a protonuraghe. Of Nuragic age, the main evidence is the tomb of Giants of St. Cosimo, among the largest megalithic constructions in Sardinia, with a semicircular exedra of 26 meters, where the entrance to the tomb chamber opens, twenty meters long.             <\/p>\n","protected":false},"featured_media":13458,"template":"","meta":{"_acf_changed":false,"_links_to":"","_links_to_target":""},"class_list":["post-13457","citta-della-terra","type-citta-della-terra","status-publish","has-post-thumbnail","hentry"],"acf":[],"_links":{"self":[{"href":"https:\/\/terracruda.org\/en\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/citta-della-terra\/13457","targetHints":{"allow":["GET"]}}],"collection":[{"href":"https:\/\/terracruda.org\/en\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/citta-della-terra"}],"about":[{"href":"https:\/\/terracruda.org\/en\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/types\/citta-della-terra"}],"wp:featuredmedia":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/terracruda.org\/en\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media\/13458"}],"wp:attachment":[{"href":"https:\/\/terracruda.org\/en\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media?parent=13457"}],"curies":[{"name":"wp","href":"https:\/\/api.w.org\/{rel}","templated":true}]}}
