Pingiadas

Pottery that looks to the future! Here in Pabillonis we promote and preserve the recovery of this ancient art. A week full of stimuli and encounters awaits you: artists and artisans-in-residence, pottery workshops, demonstrations, routes and special moments dedicated to those who want to discover and experiment with ceramic techniques and celebrate together the art of the potter’s wheel and the touch of its extraordinary artisans. The nature of the area, rich in clays, and the deep tradition of the village, which has always been known as “Sa bidda de is pingiadas” (the village of pots), make it the ideal promoter for these important initiatives to enhance the value of pottery in use. The last potter was Giuseppe Piras, who stopped production in the 1960s. Since 2018, at the proposal of City of Raw Earth, a project has been launched to revive the production of terracotta pots in a contemporary and modern key. The production of the first pots of the third millennium created during The Festival of Ceramic Pots will be enriched with new ceramics and innovative insights. The exhibition dedicated to ceramics of use and design, strongly desired by the City, will open its doors to the public on Sunday, October 12, and will display the works already created over the years and the new creations that the artists-in-residence will produce. It is an exhibition that traverses the history and evolution of this amazing material, closely linked since antiquity, by its very nature, to forms of use and lifestyles.
During the week we will have the opportunity to witness the caresses and pressures of the fingers on the bread of earth of skilled turners intent on creating, participate in special courses and workshops, experience suggestive meetings, debates, food and wine and musical events related to ceramic art.
